Celebration of Life – Michele Chalk
Michele Constance Chalk was born in Arvin, CA on September 9, 1940, to parents Robert and Mildred Gordon, and raised by Mildred’s brother, Paul, and his wife, Lois Veal in Sylmar, CA. Michele passed away peacefully on the morning of February 11, 2023, in Bedford, TX at the age of 82.
Michele was an accomplished student at San Fernando High School, serving as drill team captain and actively participating in the Girls Athletic Association and Girl Scouts of America. She earned exceptional recognition in Girl Scouts, accomplishing rare feats such as completing a week-long 100-mile hike and scaling San Gorgonio Mountain. As one of the first students of Cal State University Northridge, Michele later began her medical career as a ward clerk at Holy Cross in 1960, where she earned enough to purchase her first car, a pink thunderbird convertible.
Michele raised her sons, Brian, Todd, and Cory, throughout her 20-year career as a hemodynamic cath lab technician at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX. After relocating to Arlington, she worked at Medical City Arlington until her retirement but continued to work hospitality for her beloved Texas Rangers until 2012. Following a brief stint in Lincoln, CA where she was a faithful member of Gracelife Church, she eventually settled in Bedford, TX in 2016, where she was an active member of her community, including her water aerobics class she dearly loved and her cherished church, Martin United Methodist.
Michele was a luminescent force of nature, known for her insatiable hunger for life’s adventures, her unwavering devotion and tenderness of heart, and her profound affection for people. She possessed an extraordinary gift for forging instant connections with strangers, cultivating enduring bonds with those she encountered, and leaving an unforgettable imprint on countless lives with her unique warmth and charm. Her abiding faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and undoubtedly, her welcoming at the gates of heaven is of the highest praise, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Michele leaves behind a cherished legacy, survived by her beloved sister, Linda Larsen, and brother, Darrel Veal. Her memory will continue to live in the hearts of her three sons, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom she gave steadfast love and support from the day they were born. Michele’s unconditional love for her family, and those she considered family, knew no bounds, and her dedication to them will remain an enduring testament to her remarkable character.
Michele’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 11th at 11am CT at the Martin United Methodist Church in Bedford, TX. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available through a live stream from the church’s Facebook page.
