United Methodist connection possibilities

  • Getting to know Martin United Methodist Church – offered to visitors and new members considering membership at Martin. Including summaries and opportunities to CONNECT in the areas listed below (i.e. Bible and service opportunities)
  • Getting to know opportunities to CONNECT in United Methodist service in the East District and Central Texas Conference
  • Getting to know opportunities in United Methodist service universal….Serving UMCOR etc.
  • HISTORY OF METHODISM – presented two consecutive Sunday quarterly and Includes
    • The life of John Wesley,
    • Early formation of the Church
  • United Methodist Organization – Local Church through General Conference. Pastoral and ecumenical appointments and their significance.

Weekly Bible Studies – In-depth study & discussion groups led by church pastors and lay leaders. Includes Men and Women’s Bible studies. Contact church office for current schedule.

Women’s Ministries – Women’s Retreats, once or twice per year.

Men’s Bible Study – Meets Tuesday mornings at 7:30am on ZOOM. This group of dedicated men study books of the Bible as well as topic books by current authors.

Failotu/Malanga – Prayer Service – Tongan prayer service 6pm every other week on Thursday in the sanctuary.

Laity Prayer Service – A Laity led prayer service once per month on ZOOM.

Intentional Faith Development

Children and Youth

Children’s Sunday School Teachers – Share Jesus’ teachings with children and youth during the 9:30 am Sunday School time.

Club 3456 – 3rd thru 6th graders meet once per month on the 1st Sunday of the month to focus on mission oriented projects.

JAM (Jesus And Me) Chaperones – Assist the Children’s Director in teaching younger children about Jesus. Sundays following 11am church service.

Youth Group Sponsors/Chaperones – Assist the Youth director in youth learning, missions and extracurricular outings.

Summer Fine Arts Camp – One week per year during the summer. Volunteers assist children with art, dance, music.

Vacation Bible Camp (School) – One week during the summer. Volunteers shepherd/lead children and youth in a themed/fun learning.

Martin CARE TEAM

  • Memorial Food team – This group provides either a reception at the church, following a funeral or memorial service, or a meal for the family typically delivered to the family’s home.
  • Cooks who Care – This group provides a meal or two for members that have recently had an illness, operation or accident. The Sunday school classes provide meals for their members and so this group is for church members that do not belong to a Sunday School class.
  • Card team – This group sends a card to members that have recently had an operation, accident or illness.
  • Flower team – This group divides the Sunday Altar flowers and delivers them to members that need a bright spot or encouragement in their day.

Bereavement team – This group works during funeral or memorial services at church. They provide help for the families as they arrive and are ushered to a family room prior to the service. This group also provides ushers during the service and sees to any immediate needs of the family.

SOCIAL/FELLOWSHIP GROUPS

Book Club – Words with friends – Members choose a book each month to read. One member facilitates a discussion the second Thursday of each month at noon.

It’s Only Lunch – Once per month on the 3rd Thursday at noon. Participants can get to know each other and have lively conversation as well as a wonderful lunch at a different bistro/restaurant. Wendy Hamilton wendywindham@sbcglobal.net

JOY – Just Older Youth – First Thursday of every month. Bring your favorite potluck dish and enjoy some friendly games.
