Year-Round Ongoing Missions

Backpack Ministry – Weekly during the school year. Volunteers pack and deliver 30 to 50 weekend food bags to two HEB ISD elementary schools.

Beacon House Resale Shop –Weekly Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. Volunteers sort price and hang clothes, shoes, jewelry, books and small household items for resale. Money is used to help fund church missions.

Martin Community Pantry –The Pantry provides some household essentials to residents of the HEB area. Examples of essentials are: toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, laundry soap, dish soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, bar soap, deodorant, safety razors, etc. Volunteers are needed for a few hours during the week to prepare the bags and/or on Saturdays from 0830 to 1030 to distribute the bags. Distribution is done at the church.

Helping Hands – Volunteers assist residents of Bedford with expenses such as: utilities, prescriptions, groceries, gasoline, rent, etc. Many of these are via various gift cards.

Kairos Prison Ministries –Volunteers write cards, bake cookies and also have the opportunity to attend a closing at a prison facility.

Meals on Wheels –Volunteers deliver meals to shut-ins, one or more Thursdays during the month. Meals are provided for a specific route of names and addresses.

Ramp Building Ministry – Volunteers build wood wheelchair ramps, in conjunction with the Texas Ramp Project. This is done as needed, typically on a Saturday for 4 to 5 hours. No skills necessary.

Morning Glory Circle – This group of volunteers assist various groups throughout the community. Recently they built and erected a Lending Library on the church grounds. These books are available to anyone in the community and books are replenished by the Circle members as needed. The group also provides small items of value for our Community Pantry customers, youth and children involved with our church.

Peacemaker Quilters – This group creates various item for various needs in the community. Recently they made Christmas tree skirts and pillow cases for the Women’s Shelter and pillows for Texas Oncology patients.

Seasonal Events

Thanksgiving Baskets –A list is provided to the congregation in the fall to shop for ingredients of a typical Thanksgiving meal for families in need. These ingredients are returned to the church, sorted and prepared for distribution to identified families associated with the church. Donations can also be made to purchase gift cards for distribution and purchase of a turkey.

Christmas gifts for seniors and children –Prior to the Christmas holidays, volunteers coordinate requests for gift cards to use in Christmas shopping for seniors and families in need. Donated cards and gifts are distributed Saturday before Christmas, at the church. Contact Information Needed.

Project Transformation –This is a summer reading program sponsored by the Central Texas Conference. Volunteers read to school age children for a couple hours per day for one week’s time during the summer months. This program assists children with maintaining and improving their reading skills.

Sager Brown Mission –A group from Martin annually supports this mission project of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Volunteers work in a warehouse completing cleaning buckets, hygiene kits and school kits for areas damaged by flooding, tornadoes or other natural disasters. The warehouse is located in Baldwin, Louisiana. The facility has accommodations and meals for participants.

Youth Mission Trip –Youth perform one or more mission outings per year. Outings may be local or other cities/states. Contact

Easter Eggstravaganza –Volunteers assist in planning and working a children’s Easter celebration.

City of Bedford Pumpkin patch –Volunteers coordinate and man a table to promote fall activities at the church.

Trunk or Treat at the church –Recruit volunteers to decorate their vehicle for Halloween for neighborhood children and church youth.

City of Bedford Tree Lighting –Volunteers coordinate and man a table to promote the church Advent events.
