We are diverse. We are mission driven.
We are family. We are committed to Christ.

Dear Martin Family,

Afu’s service arrangements have been finalized and we would like to let you know about the details, especially since we are having to make some plans that are not customary to our usual rhythms and practices at Martin UMC for funerals.  Here is the schedule for the week:

There will be cultural services Saturday, Sunday and Monday for guests around the world who will be coming to celebrate and honor his life.  We have the opportunity to open the service on Sunday at 7pm for our Martin members to grieve and remember as a church family. Then, on Monday, our community at Martin will step aside to “make room” and provide extra space in a spirit of hospitality for our Tongan guests for the official wake and funeral service.  The service Sunday night will be offered in both English and Tongan languages, with Rev. Katie preaching and our District Superintendent Danny Tenney in attendance and participating in leadership.  Monday all parts of the service will be spoken and sung in Tongan.

Thank you for your understanding and respect of this plan so all will have opportunity to give Afu and the family honor in this time.

Saturday, August 29th Interfaith Community Prayer Service (in Tongan only)

Soul Food 6pm

Sunday August 30th “Viewing Service” (in English and Tongan)

Sanctuary 7pm-8pm

Service will continue late into the night, but Martin members are welcome to leave after the English portion is complete at 8pm.

Monday, August 31st Wake and Funeral (in Tongan only)

Sanctuary 10am-11am

Burial at noon—Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens

Continue to pray for Mele Lupe Uasi, her children and the family.  We will see many of you this weekend.

From the Business Director…

We FINALLY have regained control of the door locks on the Vastine entry and Wooton Hall doors! Through a generous donation, we have installed a new remote lock control system on all three doors. These doors are controlled by schedules and soon will be coordinated with our scheduling system, eSpace. There are several things that you need to be made aware of:

  • Codes will no longer work on these doors! They can only be opened by a phone app that requires an invitation, or by key fob (which we do not have yet}. For those who had a code in the old door system and still need after hours access, you should have gotten a notification and invitation to download the app. If you have been sharing someone’s code, you will need to contact me for possible access, if after hours unscheduled access is still a necessity.
  • For the first time, the interior Vastine door can be scheduled. The doors will continue to remain locked during office hours, to keep staff secure, especially when individuals are there alone. For after hours scheduled events and Sunday activities, these doors will be controlled by schedule.
  • In order to insure doors are open for your event, please make sure you submit your event to Deanna for scheduling. If it’s not scheduled, the doors will not unlock. Even if you don’t want your event to show on the public calendar, it still needs to be scheduled to unlock the doors (and control the A/C).
  • Doors will be programmed to lock at least a half hour before the final event in the building is scheduled to end. This will insure that the doors are locked by the time the last participants leave.
  • The doors on the west end of Vastine Building (by the basketball courts) are NOT controlled by electronic locks and schedules, at this time. We are hoping this might be an option, soon. Leadership and staff members that have exterior master keys can still open the west doors for meetings in that end of the building. However, those doors do not lock themselves. If they are unlocked by key, they MUST be relocked by key!

If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the church office.

Thanx!

Chris
